Riley has worked as the city of Atlanta reporter for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution since 2023. She is responsible for is responsible for daily coverage of Atlanta's mayor and City Council while producing in-depth, political and policy-focused enterprise stories.
The beat also produces the weekly newsletter “Inside City Hall” and regularly joins as a guest on the AJC's podcast/radio show “Politically Georgia.”
Prior to her role at the AJC, Riley worked as a public policy and politics reporter at Georgia Public Broadcasting covering the intersection of government and daily life. For GPB, she creates multimedia packages that include writing, photography and radio components.
Riley also covered Georgia campaigns during multiple elections cycles including the 2020 presidential contest, 2021 U.S. Senate runoff and the 2022 governor's race.
When she first moved to Georgia in 2019, Riley was the the Georgia statehouse reporter for CNHI News where she covered the Georgia General Assembly, elections and statewide social issues. At the same time, she worked to cover the impact of the pandemic on Georgia's rural areas.
Riley earned a Bachelor's Degree in newspaper and online journalism at S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. She minored in art photography through the College of Visual and Performing Arts. During her undergrad, she worked at The Daily Orange, Syracuse's independent student newspaper as well as led visuals for Newhouse's online outlet TheNewsHouse.com.
Riley began her career in journalism at the Idaho Press newspaper in Boise, Idaho.
